  • Dulse Q & A
Crisped dulse crumpled into chowders and soups.
fried with butter and garlic
Dulse can be substitued for bacon in sandwiches, casseroles, etc.
Crisp dulse, plain or flavoured on top of a cold salad plate.
Does dulse need to be prepared to eat?  No, dulse can be eaten as a snack from the bag like chips. Some love to fry it with butter & garlic until crispy. Some use it like nacho chips by melting cheese on it and adding salsa.
How else can I use dulse?  Dulse can be crisped by heating or drying. Crisp dulse can be crumbled or cut with scissors into soup, salad, onto veggies, potato, rice, into dough for biscuits, breads, added to omelettes, lasagna, etc.
For a variety in taste, you can heat until the colour lightens and leaf thins and eat as snack or crumble into foods as listed above. Email us ways you enjoy dulse and we can share your suggestion with others.

How do I store dulse? Store dulse in dark, dry, cool place. The freezer is a great place if holding more than a month and up to a year and a half. If freezing put in air tight container. Keeping dulse out of the sun and dry is most important.

Who is the little boy on our labels? Our grandson back in 2004. He has enjoyed helping with the dulse when he visits in the summer.

Catch the Grand Manan ferry at Blacks Harbour, NB (exit 60 off of Rt 1 that runs from Calais, Maine along the south shore of mainland New Brunswick). Once on Grand Manan follow the main road 776 to Grand Harbour, where you turn left onto Ingall's Head Road, by the historical stone Anglican Church. Follow to the end and park in the white rectangles that mark waiting area for the (free) William Frankland Ferry to White Head Is. On White Head turn right and then left at Post Office into adjoining driveway for our brown chalet. www.grandmanannb.com
